In the Heart of Yoga, Desikachar says that we should endeavor to bring the balance of two qualities to our asana practice, “sthira” (steadiness and alertness) and “sukha” (lightness and comfort: happiness). He goes on further to say- “when we practice asanas, there is a starting point where we begin, just like anything else in life. The starting point for this practice is the condition of our entire being at the present moment.”
In an ever changing world where life presents each of us with challenges, in what ways can you learn to become more alert and conscious in the present moment of your choices and actions without becoming rigid? By the same token, in what ways can you maintain a sense of peace, comfort, and flexibility without becoming apathetic or resistant to change?
